Pampaneira Town Hall
Pampaneira, a name of Latin origin (“pampinus”, “pámpano”) alluding to the lushness of its lands irrigated by the Poqueira River, is not only considered a historic-artistic site but has received awards such as the First Provincial Award for the Beautification of Villages (1976) and, twice (1977 and 1978), the National Tourism Award for the Beautification and Improvement of Spanish Villages.
The Buddhist monastery of O Sel Ling, a place dedicated to retreat and meditation, is located in the municipality.
In the heart of the Alpujarra of Granada, a unique region in the peninsular, a natural stepping stone between the Mediterranean coast and the Sierra Nevada, where the highest peaks of the Spanish territory rise, Pampaneira is by “nature” a place to be known.
